Korean Slang — 멘붕 (men-bung): Meaning, Examples & Practice




🔤 Meaning


멘붕 is a short form of “멘탈 붕괴,” which literally means “mental breakdown.”


It’s a slang term used when someone is so shocked, confused, or overwhelmed that they mentally shut down or freeze. You’ll hear it a lot in stressful or surprising situations.

  1. "시험지를 보는 순간 멘붕 왔어."

    (The moment I saw the test, I had a mental breakdown.)


  2. "갑자기 발표하라고 해서 멘붕 상태였어."

    (They suddenly told me to present, and I totally froze.)


  3. "비밀번호 까먹어서 멘붕 중이야."

     (I forgot my password—I'm in a mental crisis right now.)


  4. "실수로 파일 다 지웠다고? 멘붕이지 그건..."

    (You accidentally deleted everything? That’s total mental collapse...)


  5. "처음 한국 지하철 환승할 때 멘붕이었어."

    (The first time I transferred on the Korean subway, I was mentally overwhelmed.)
