3️⃣ Expression Tips & Cultural Notes


  • When saying “I have a pain,” Koreans usually say ‘~이 아파요’ (is painful) rather than “My ~ hurts.”Example: 머리가 아파요 = I have a headache.


  • For actions, use body part + 으로 (with / by):손으로 쓰다 → to write with your hand.발로 차다 → to kick with your foot.


  • Korean uses body terms in idioms often:

    • 머리가 좋다 → to be smart (literally, “have a good head”).

    • 귀가 얇다 → to be easily influenced (literally, “have thin ears”).


  • In hospitals, you might hear formal terms like “두통 (headache), 복통 (stomach pain), 요통 (back pain).”
